You're pretty.

So last week I had to take J to the doctor, yet again. He has had chronic bloody noses since he was three or four. Ask Kelly, he'd bleed on her floor every time he would go over there!

Okay, so we are sitting in the doctor's office and I knew we'd have to wait a little while because we were "squeezed in" onto the doctor's schedule.

After we had been there for over an hour J was getting antsy. I peeked outside and asked if it would be much longer, we had been there over an hour. The nurse explained that there was an emergency in the office, a young patient had passed out, and the doctor would be with us soon. Well, I totally understood that! I just wish out of the 12 people working in the office that day, that someone would have come in and explained that there was an emergency and it would be a little wait.

Meanwhile J and I are amusing ourselves and he is laying on his belly with his head near my head and I was getting points on his little handheld game. He looks up at me and says out of the blue, "You're pretty." and then goes back to playing.

As long as I live, I don't think I'll ever hear sweeter words.

When I am having a bad day, I will pull this memory out. When I am ready to string him up, I will look at his little mad face and hear him say those words again.

You're pretty.

When my hair frizzes out...
When my "fat" pants are too tight...
When I oversleep...
When I burn the bacon...
When I try to be productive and life gets in the way...
When someone hurts me...
When I hurt someone else...
When I am disappointed, disillusioned, disenfranchised...
When I hurt...
When I ache...

I'll have those words.

You're pretty.

Side note: J's nose is fine. We got him in to see an ENT the next day and he cauterized the left side of his nose. He had one small bloody nose last night and it stopped almost before it started. I am sure that this week the right side of his nose will get jealous of all the attention paid to the left and it will start bleeding. Hopefully will have this under control before we spend the summer with Kelly. You know how she feels about J bleeding on her floor!
