from where i sit, sometimes they are hard work but it doesn't seem that way because the friendship is so worth it, or because everyone in the relationship is working equally. so maybe you just need to torch the hell out of the ones that take more effort than they're worth, because there isn't enough return on investment.

I think that friendships, just like any other relationships take work. And sometimes work is hard.
Most good things aren't easy.

I didn't say that friendship should be easy.
I just said that it shouldn't be "hard to do, ever."
There is a difference.
And if you were really Dr. Phil you would have had a catch phrase.
Like, "Friendship is like a pickup truck, ya always have a bed when you need it."
And, I am not afraid of hard work, I just don't like being the only one working hard.
Get real. You're only alone if you're not there for yourself.
wow, I believe the original statement was totally missed on this one.
Friendship can have its ups and downs, BUT, it really should never feel like work.
If it is a true friendship than it should just feel like being there for eachother, not work. and never should it be one-sided.
Being multi-faceted, one should expect more than one side to friendships.
